Parkside 23 (Restaurant Review with Photos)
Parkside 23! Parkside's food philosophy was what brought us in and is the true definition of farm to table. Most of their ingredients are grown right next door on a small farm. Their meats and seafood come from local or trusted sources. However, this kind of sustainability does not mean you have to sacrifice flavor either. Their entrees are generously portioned and well executed.
Their entrees are all grouped by pricing on their menu. We chose the Fried Amish Chicken Breast, Pretzel Crusted Veal, and a side of Caramelized Brussels sprouts. (Can you tell I'm a huge fan of Brussels sprouts by how often I order it?) The whole menu has something for everybody, there are classics like meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, or chicken pot pie; scallops or filet for splurging; Italian items like risotto and flatbreads; light options like Berry Salad or Kale Salad.
Cheese and Charcuterie Board, Parkside 23 - Brookfield, WI |
The charcuterie board is simplistic but satisfying. We are bread and cracker people when enjoying charcuterie and cheeses, I only wished there was more bread but that's a good thing. Soppressata, prosciutto, seasonal fresh jam, aged cheddar and MontAmore cheese.
The entrees were really good. And I mean REALLY good. They're very well rounded, I like ordering an entree that it comes with all of the accoutrements that will make it a whole meal. I don't like ordering an entree and then having to order 2-3 extra things from the menu because the entree itself isn't complete. The Fried Amish Chicken came with this wonderful cornbread, a homemade citrus enhanced butter, mashed potatoes, and bacon collard greens. Wow. The Pretzel Crusted Veal was accompanied by this crazy mushroom and asparagus spaetzle. I couldn't stop eating the spaetzle. When the sidekick of the entree is just as good as the main hero, you've got a well rounded meal.
The Caramelized Brussels were ordered because we really like Brussels sprouts. Still. Very good.
Brownie A La Mode, Parkside 23 - Brookfield, WI |
Also, we couldn't decide on just a single dessert so we ordered one to enjoy there and two to take home. There was a cream brûlée and a blueberry mousse as well. Both items were not something that was take-out friendly due to the vessels they are made in but the kitchen staff were kind enough to still find a way for us to take them home without hassle.
Staff and service were A+. Our server was funny and really friendly, she checked on us often and didn't judge, but encouraged us when we wanted 3 desserts in total 🤣 - that's the kind of positivity you need in your life.
Ambiance was also cool. They had live music the night we were there inside near the bar. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside patio. There is a parking lot, space is a little tight when driving through. The place is popular in Brookfield, understandably.
